December 2011

CHRISTMAS PARTY

Seventy two Corvette enthusiasts gathered at The Racquet Club in east Memphis Saturday, December tenth for our annual Christmas party. Ann Hamblin served as the party organizer (and most everything else) for the event. Of course, with Ann pulling the strings, it all came together without a hitch.

Attendees were offered a choice of flank steak, salmon or chicken. Dinner was served to the tune of a live band that played a wide variety of entertaining tunes…some old and some, not so old. Following dessert and coffee, Ann and hubby, Jim, held a drawing to distribute all the absolutely wonderful door prizes they had collected for the evening. Lots of folks had bags of goodies to take home and everyone had a smile on their face when they left. Several of the ‘hardier’ souls even found their way to dance floor.

It was a wonderful evening and we all send a big Corvette Memphis salute and thank you to Ann and Jim. They always make us look good.

The annual Christmas party is held in lieu of a December meeting.

MYSTERY DINNER CRUISE

Mystery Dinner Cruises are not held during December and January due to holiday activities, the threat of inclement weather and short daylight hours. However, the event returns in February and will continue the first Wednesday of each month through November 2012. It seems we all really like to drive our cars and eat good food. So, here’s looking forward to February 1st. Wonder where we will go?

CALENDAR

THE 2012 CALENDAR IS ON ITS WAY!

CALLING POST

One of the most useful tools we have for the club is the ‘Calling Post’. Typically managed by the vice president, the calling post is used to keep club members informed of meeting dates and times, cruise dates and times, special events dates and times and any other information that might be useful to the membership. The success of the service, however, depends on the integrity of the information that is sent to it. Any member who is not receiving regular, informative calls from the CMI calling post can assume the information on file for that member is invalid. For those not getting calls, please check with the membership officer or the vice president. Be sure to

provide these officers the correct telephone number you’d like to have called. Once that information is entered correctly, the computer will do the rest.

WRAPPING IT UP

As you know, the end of December brings to an end the administration of the current Executive board. Leaving the board are Dave Freeman, president; Barbara Cardinal, secretary; and Shirley Jones, membership officer. We owe each of these folks a big thank you for all they have done for the club.

The new board, beginning in January, includes Paul Ferguson, vice president; Linda Dodge remaining as treasurer; Sherrye Willis as membership officer; Beth Lehman, secretary and Greg Reichert, officer at large, newsletter.

Personally, I feel both honored and humbled to have been elected your president for 2012. If I can do half as well this coming year as Dave Freeman has the past two, I will be delighted. The club presented Dave with an engraved desk clock as a token of appreciation during the Christmas party. Perhaps, now, he will have more time for Sally and keeping himself healthy. The lack of stress surely won’t hurt. Thanks, Dave!

Finally, this is my final Corvette Chatter. In some ways it seems like just yesterday that I started writing these. And, honestly, at times, while staring at a blank screen wondering what this edition will contain, it’s been trying. However, in the end, I loved writing them and am really happy I had the opportunity to do it. The monthly editions weren’t always the best, but they were always a labor of love. The January edition will be written by Greg Reichert and I look forwarding to reading each of his newsletters throughout the year.

I will always be a Corvette enthusiast. I love everything about these incredibly wonderful automobiles. They are powerful yet graceful, fast yet docile and sexy, yet faithful. They are the best automotive value available and they are ALL AMERICAN!

Of course, Corvettes and Corvette Memphis are synonymous. Thanks again for having me!
