A PERSONAL NOTE FROM SUSAN
Dear Corvette Friends,
Thank you for all you have done for us in recent months from messages, prayers, visits, and cards to
food for the gathering following Ed’s service. Your friendship has truly helped our family during this difficult time.
AUGUST MEETING
Quite a few members attended the August meeting at Sunrise Chevrolet. The meeting was well organized and moved along quickly with reports from various officers. We welcomed back Susan Allen who gave us the treasurer’s report. VEEP Craig Deckshot brought the laundry list of shows and activities. And, we discussed a venue for this year’s Christmas gathering. Since the decision has been made to omit the band and dancing parts of our Christmas event, we are trying to select a venue that offers a private dining area, good food, reasonable prices and enough space to “visit” before, during and after dinner. Any thoughts and ideas are welcome. Just send to any of the officers listed above.
Joe Sluder, George McDowell and Paul Ferguson were appointed as this year’s nominating committee to place officer candidates on the ballot for October voting. They will be calling club members prior to the September meeting when the ballot will be presented to the club. Here’s your chance. Decide the office you’d like to hold and say yes when contacted by the committee.
Chuck Wombaugh brought the club up to date on his project, the Knights of Columbus show September 11th. The show will be held in Somerville as part of that community’s Cotton Festival. Chuck still needs help. He specifically mentioned judges.
Likewise, Charlie Shaw briefed the club on how his show, the Collierville Police Department Show, is coming along. Similarly, Charlie is looking for volunteers. His show will be held Saturday, September 25th at Central Church and he needs help with registration and judging.
The club adjourned to Perkins on Poplar in Collierville for dinner following the meeting.
BARTLETT CRUISE IN
The final tally was 54 Corvettes in two rows at the Bartlett Cruise in July 22nd. Jim Willis posted the “call” for all Corvettes on Corvette Forum. Many responded including 12 cars from the Jackson, TN Corvette club.
There was a strong representation from Corvette Memphis, too. Despite the severe heat, those attending seemed to have a good time. Additionally, officers of Classic Chevy’s, the club overseeing the cruise in, were curious as to how we got so many Corvettes at one cruise in. It’s easy when you drive a CORVETTE!!!!!!
CENTURY FARMS WINERY
They did it again! The Willis’s, Jim and Sherrye, treated the club to another fun-filled outing Saturday, July 24th. They arranged for the club to visit Century Farms Winery again. This time, we all took picnic baskets. The winery was ready for us, providing ample tables and seating and even outdoor air conditioning (really!) Music began at 7p and was delightful. And, of course, the chilled wine helped! It’s a great trip…a chance to get America’s Only True Sports Cars out on the road and lose some soot. But, it’s close enough the trip doesn’t require a driver change or two. Thanks to Jim and Sherrye.
New ideas for different trips and activities are always welcome. Talk to VP Craig Deckshot to schedule a club sponsored activity. Or for non-club sponsored trips and activities just call members or send an email. You’ll be surprised at how many show up.
MYSTERY DINNER CRUISE
August 4th was one of those “Hot Summer Nights”. Germantown Parkway North from the AgriCenter and Highway 70 Northeast to Arlington got even hotter in the early evening as 15 Corvettes roared to life and made the trip to a new restaurant in Arlington, called BrendaLay. Led by the fearless speed demon Frances Dahlin, we made the 20 minute trip in just under 45 minutes. Nonetheless, we all arrived safely and enjoyed good food and lots of laughter.
The Mystery Dinner Cruise is held each month on the first Wednesday and is led by a different volunteer each month. If you would like your “Vette” leading the pack to your favorite restaurant in the near future, talk to Prez Dave Freeman. Volunteers are always welcome.
VISITORS
We were happy to have several visitors at the August meeting. They were

NEW MEMBERS
We also have two new members. Jim and Vickie Carroll officially became new members at the August meeting. Be sure to say HI! to them and welcome them to Corvette Memphis. Hopefully, there will be more information about Jim and Vickie in coming issues of Corvette Chatter.
