Meeting Minutes
June 11, 2008

Doug Turner called the meeting of the Corvette Club to order.  The sign-in sheet was made available at the entrance. 

Dinner

Shirley Jones announced that dinner was going to be at Crescent City at the Avenue in Collierville.  A headcount was taken of participants.

Treasurer’s Report

Susan Allen gave the treasurer’s report.  The checking account balance as of May 31, 2008 was $4184.42.  The charity savings account balance as of May 31, 2008 was $784.55.

Membership

Tina Coronna filled in for Ann Hamblin and introduced a guest and asked them to say a little something about their car. 

Newsletter

Sherrey Willis needs more bios from members.  If you haven’t turned one in yet, it is not too late.

Secretary’s Report

Debbie Hochstein reported that the March meeting minutes with corrections has been posted on the club’s website.  She distributed a draft of the May meeting minutes and asked for corrections. 

Corvette Memphis Website

Ed Allen had no new business.

New Business

Peggy Barnhart from Bumpas Harley Davidson Motorcycle club invited the Corvette Memphis club to participate in their “Corvettes, Cobras & Chrome” event.  It is scheduled for June 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Bumpas Harley Davidson dealership in Collierville.  Any question you can contact her at 901-316-1121.  she left a flyer with our club.

Chuck Wombough discussed status of the club’s car show, scheduled for September 13th .  He and Fritz Crombie and Charlie Shaw went to Sommerville to map out the layout for the show.  They are still in need of door prizes.  If you would like to donate an item to be used as a door prize either call Chuck or bring it to the monthly meeting.

C`athy Gardner discussed the value of our club having an ambassador to the National Corvette Museum.  After a short question and answer period Kathy was nominated to serve in this position.  She agreed to the nomination.  A vote was held and she was unanimously elected. 

TECH TALK

There was no TECH Talk this month.

Club Events

Tina discussed the club’s upcoming events.

Cruise with Central Arkansas Corvette Club

This activity is scheduled for June 21st.  We will meet at the Pyramid at 11:00 a.m. and go to the Rendezvous` at 11:30 for lunch.  The cost to park will be $5 and includes security.  From there we will proceed by trolley to Mud Island and return to Beale Street at dinner time.  Currently only two couples have signed up to represent the club.  We need more participation. 

Cruise out of New Orleans

Shirley Jones is coordinating the club’s participation on a Carnival Fantasy cruise out of New Orleans.  The dates are, Oct 27 to Nov 1, 2008.  A sign-up sheet was available at the meeting.  Any questions, contact Shirley.

Weekend Get-Away

Shirley Jones is planning a Weekend Get-Away at a bed & bath, Rainbow Resort, in Arkansas June 27th & 28th for club members.  Four couples have already made reservations.  There is an opening for one more couple.  Any questions, contact Shirley.

Progressive Dinner

A Progressive Dinner is planned for August 9th.  To date no one has volunteered to coordinate this event.  If you are interested in coordinating this event or hosting one of the courses please contact Tina. 

Mystery Dinner Cruise

The Mystery Cruise for June will meet at the Agri-Center at 6:30 p.m.

Mystery Day Cruise

This one day cruise was very enjoyable, great ride.  We want to thank Shirley and Norm Jones for making all the arrangements.  The cruise started on the corner of Appling & Summer at 8:30 a.m. with a police escort out of the parking lot.  It continued on to Fort Pillow and lunch at the Olympic Steakhouse in Ripley.  We then traveled to Brownsville and had pie for dessert in at Bozo’s Barbeque in Stanton.

Cars & Cycles against Cancer: 

We want to thank Joe and Diane Sluder for organizing this event.  Everyone had a good time caravanning up to Blytheville on June 7th.  The weather was great and the people were very welcoming.

Drag Race in Holly Springs

Jim Willis discussed the possibility of reserving an eight mile drag strip in Holly Springs.  There appeared to be interest from eight members present for this type of event.  Jim will check into it and report back.

Redbirds Game

The activity planned for June 27th has been tabled.  A member volunteered to check into getting a skybox.  More information will be forthcoming.

Comedy Club

There are plans to go to the Comedy Club on July 12th.  More information will be available at the July meeting.  Any questions contact Tina.

Garage Day

There are plans to hold a garage day where the guys can get together to work on their cars or help others work on their cars, or just watch others work on their cars.  The date is tentatively set for July 10th.  But, no location has been set.  Contact Doug Turner or Fritz Crombie if you are interested in participating.

Chris Johanson ran the raffle at the end of the meeting with the proceeds going to the charity account.
